Makeup Routine : Things We Usually Skip But Shouldn’t

Things in our makeup routine that we usually skip but shouldn’t — otherwise known as stuff i do out of laziness… or stuff i do when my day is hectic and I only have a few hours left to cross things off my list before a deadline. Bracing myself cause that is how June is for me. Even my usually relaxed blog is going to have some extra excitement this month cause I’ll be working with Maybelline and talk to you about my thoughts on some of the products they sent over for review.

I decided I wanted to include some more Maybelline items that I’ve been using for almost a year now, and vouch for them in a form of a reminder. Kind of a nudge on why I shouldn’t skip these steps when i put on (and take off) my makeup as i buzz through this very hectic month.

Don’t skip the mascara

I feel like lots of us do this. Most of the time its not really because were lazy to put mascara on — we are just too darn lazy to remove them at night. Amirite? Trying to change that though! Cause my lashes are few, quite short, and well pretty close to non existent without a proper mascara. And if you ignore the fact that I’m not looking at the camera lens on my photo below, you’ll notice that in there is the best angle of my lashes ever photographed in this blog. My lashes don’t look as long and curled up like that unless I’m wearing false lashes or in this case when I’m using Maybelline’s Hypercurl Mascara (BTW this mascara is currently P249 but after June 12 it’ll be P199 only!).

Don’t leave the house without sealing
your makeup with a setting powder

This one came from my old habit of not using face powder cause I want to get a dewy makeup look, at the expense of my concealer creasing underneath my eyes. But since I’m getting more into fresh, matte makeup looks lately I’ve learned to appreciate how much it seals and helps keep my makeup fresh throughout the day. I’ve genuinely been liking Maybelline’s White Superfresh Powder for that. My highschool-face-powder-junkie-self would’ve liked this product.

Dont forget to moisturize your lips before applying lipstick

Thanks to my love for lipsticks, specifically matte — the most drying formula ever — I gave into the need to moisturize my lips all the time. Cause if i don’t my lips will chap, unwanted lines will crack, and i wont be able to resist the urge to peel off my dry lips. So bad. I’ve had two tubes of Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm before (pink blue one) and i loved it! Now I’m currently using this other version, an orange citrus-y one that smells as nice and as inviting as most of their lip balms.

Don’t give up on blending your eyeshadows well

I do this out of laziness and frustration. I’m not very good with eyeshadows, mostly because its hella hard to make them look good on hooded lids. And eyeshadows for me take forever and a half to blend well. I mean if the colors are similarly close to each other no problem. But when its a very light champagne shade plus dark brown we’re going to be blending for days (kidding!). Still working on this, you know what the gurus say practice makes perfect!

Don’t be lazy and remove your eye makeup before bed

Cause when were finally home dead tired from our busy day who has time for this?… “Everybody Shayne everybody” lol! I can almost hear you all say that. Anyway i’ve mentioned before how much I’m pleased with Maybelline’s Eye & Lips Makeup Remover cause it’s effective and it is super affordable. I try not to skip this the most cause if I don’t, the makeup left could potentially irritate my eyes when i sleep, or worse… damage a precious strand of hair from my very small collection of eyelashes!

Anybody else is guilty of doing the same things? :)

I think everything is spot on!
the only thing I would add is that we should never forget to apply sunscreen.
I've been enjoying more simple looks ( who am I kidding, I've been playing with eyeliner, that's not simple at all…)
And yes, mascara is a must-have! Along side with concealer. There are days were I just apply mascara, concealer, setting powder or spray and I leave the house ( this happens mostly on days where I just have one class and I won't be staying too much time outside…)

I've missed your posts <3 It was a lovely surprise to read this one :3
I hope that everything is okay :3
    Take care*

I hear you on the mascara — for me it's eye make-up in general. Sometimes I want to wear it and don't because I don't want to mess with the removal process!!!

  • CJ says:

YES to the mascara bit. It's so tedious to take off which is why I usually skip it when I'm not going anywhere important.

  • Great tips I never skip mascara I do skip setting powder now I have to make sure I don't this was very helpful you look pretty without makeup.

  • Awww beautiful, beautiful photos Shayne!!! and I'm also excited for your collab with Maybelline! can't wait for more posts!!!! I'm taking notes in your reminders but I actually don't always put on a mascara. I don't know why, I just don't feel mascara even if I have one LOL Maybelline, always have the best mascaras!

    love lots,

im beginning to appreciate mascaras more ever since ive used products that lengthens my super short lashes.
ive missed yours too! why are we so busy these days :( :(

  • Shayne ♥ says:

you and me both! i was exactly like that years ago. i would skip the whole eye makeup for that reason. so lazy hehe!

  • Shayne ♥ says:

but girl ang lashes mo naman ay maganda and mahaba so thats okay ;) mine kasi is super short lol

  • Shayne ♥ says:

thanks jackie! i wish i look as polished as that without makeup haha but im wearing a light makeup look here using these products :)

  • Shayne ♥ says:

tiiiiin! me also hehe! hindi lang halata masyado sa tone in this article but im REALLY excited about it haha. love your energy as always! what maybelline mascara are you using?

  • CJ says:

Hahaha that's coz of the mascara!! All hail Maybelline :))

  • Shayne, you are absolutely beautiful and you take the best photos! <3 Something I always seem to skip is moisturizing my lips before applying lipstick. I found that it makes a huge difference if I moisturize before because lipstick on dry lips just isn't a cute look! haha. I have Babylips, but I've abandoned it and now I found it at the bottom of my makeup bag, and I'll definitely start using it again.

I miss using Maybelline products and all these sound lovely Shayne. I'm guilty of all of this especially on lazy days as well. Also I really love your photograph and you look so pretty sweetie.

You look so pretty here! As always! & I'm loving your blog decorations! ^_^

I'm OC about everything else, except for the mascara. I think it's a matter of finding “The Ultimate Survivor” that will hold a curl all damn day. When it doesn't hold up for me, the shape of my squishy cheeks tend to smudge mascara like crazy. Pag super waterproof naman, katamad alisin. :(

Love your pictures always! Galing! :)

aw thanks melissaa! youre the bestest! :P

  • Shayne ♥ says:

thanks jackieee! yea these are great affordable products, esp their line of mascaras… super good. ive triied a couple of them, next mascara i wanna try is their great lash mascara :)

  • Shayne ♥ says:

hihi thanks yette! i found that black chalk board in robinsons home decor area. its only P250 plus it comes with a chalk ;)

  • Shayne ♥ says:

ay true, the only waterproof mascara that i found thats mejo easier to remove than the other waterproof mascara is lancome's mascara (shocks i cant remember the name of the product) but its so expensive naman. so i make tiyaga nalang with the drugstore line. hypercurl is the easiest to remove and falsies is the hardest :)

  • Shayne ♥ says:

    thanks juvygurl! <3

  • Shayne ♥ says:

hahaha! which mascara do you use?

  • Before I got braces, I would always always always skip the “moisturize your lip before applying lipstick” part. Ha ha – so I guess that's one good thing that came out of having to get braces – I was forced to start putting on lip balm before I start my make up routine! :)

  • Shayne ♥ says:

ahaha! a lot of my friends had braces and i noticed how high maintenance those could be. one thing they got out of having braces – that could also be good for some – is cutting their food intake cause its harder to chew with it :P

  • I'm guilty of not wearing mascara (I wear glasses so it's a big no no) and setting powder (because it makes everything look dry and cakey so I use mist

  • Naaj Rona says:

Good girl here and follow all the rules including removing make up before bed lol

  • Shayne ♥ says:

hehehe! omg naaaaj i missed you SO MUCH! how have you been?

  • Shayne ♥ says:

oh wow i didnt know its not good to wear mascara when your wearing glasses, i wear reading glasses occasionally so im unaware of this hehe! whats the effect? :)

  • Naaj Rona says:

    QOAYS READING MARATHON TIME.
But YES. I love the look of mascara, but most days I'm too busy in the mornings to put it on and take it off at night. And, I figure that if I'm not meeting cute boys or important people on the weekday, WHY WOULD I NEED TO SLAP THAT ON? (Most days I just wear tinted moisturizer, concealer, and blush!)
The first pressed powder I ever bought was from Maybelline, and that was in my second year of university, LOL. Unfortunately, I started wearing foundation in high school…which means I went nearly four years without setting my foundation. I CRINGE. (I don't know if you know the story, but I once left a foundation stain on a guy's white shirt, ugh)
I'm still a total n00b when it comes to blending out eyeshadows. I mean, for someone who has so much, I'm terrible at it. I really need to experiment more, but at the same time I'm also like, “BUT THAT WOULD BE WASTING PRODUCT!!!1!” (but let's face it, at the slow rate that I'm burning through products, it'll take me 10 lifetimes to finish up everything)
I'm very good about taking off my makeup for the night, but recently I decided not to just to experiment (I was also staying overnight at a cottage trip) and I regret. So much. My natural face oils just broke down my foundation and it transferred onto my glasses. It was very gross :(

  • Shayne ♥ says:

BUT were you wearing mascara when you bumped into that guy with the white shirt…….. yiheeeee!
im still also not so good with eyeshadows — i feel like having asian hooded eyes makes it 100x harder to master. its frustrating!
